Ripple’s Strategic Investment in OKX
Blockchain payments firm Ripple has made a major strategic investment in the cryptocurrency exchange OKX, joining a consortium of financial heavyweights backing the platform at a lofty $25 billion pre-money valuation. The move, announced on October 6, 2026, signals a deepening alliance between two of the industry’s most significant players and aims to accelerate the adoption of stablecoins and institutional-grade financial products.
Alongside Ripple, the investment round includes stablecoin issuer Circle, quantitative trading firm Qube Research & Technologies (QRT), and SC Ventures, the venture capital arm of banking giant Standard Chartered. The specific financial terms of Ripple’s investment were not disclosed.
The Strategic Investment and a Shared Stablecoin Vision
However, this deal extends a funding round from March 2023. In that previous round, Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, invested $200 million, valuing OKX at the same $25 billion.
According to OKX CEO and founder Star Xu, the exchange was not actively seeking new funds. Instead, it handpicked strategic investors that align with its long-term vision for transforming into a comprehensive financial technology platform that bridges crypto markets with traditional finance.
This new capital injection is less about financing and more about forging powerful alliances to dominate future market segments like stablecoins, payments, and institutional services. This move is part of a broader pattern of Ripple’s expansion efforts into new markets.
The relationship between Ripple and OKX is already well-established, centered heavily on Ripple’s regulated, dollar-pegged stablecoin, RLUSD. An initial strategic partnership was announced back on April 29, 2026, to list and integrate RLUSD across the OKX global exchange and its wallet services in eligible markets.
The stablecoin, which launched in December 2024, has since swelled to a market capitalization exceeding $1.5 billion. It is now deeply embedded in the exchange’s infrastructure. Jack McDonald, Ripple’s Senior Vice President of Stablecoins, emphasized the strategic fit.
McDonald noted that stablecoins are evolving into a core component of global financial infrastructure. He added that leading platforms like OKX are critical for their distribution and adoption. The investment formalizes this belief, turning a partnership into a vested interest.
The mechanics of RLUSD on the OKX platform
Ripple’s RLUSD is not just another asset listed on the exchange; it’s a foundational piece of its trading environment. The stablecoin is natively issued on both the XRP Ledger and Ethereum, fully backed by a segregated reserve of cash and cash equivalents, and redeemable 1:1 for US dollars. This structure is designed to provide institutional confidence, a key theme of the partnership.
On OKX, RLUSD is integrated into the exchange’s innovative Unified Order Book. This system solves the widespread issue of liquidity fragmentation by consolidating all eligible trading pairs into a single liquidity pool, interface, and price discovery mechanism. For traders, this means RLUSD can be traded against over 280 spot pairs, including a key RLUSD/XRP pair, with greater efficiency and potentially tighter spreads.
Beyond simple trading, RLUSD serves as institutional-grade margin collateral for derivatives products, including perpetual futures, in select markets.
This utility makes it a vital tool for sophisticated traders and institutions looking to manage risk and leverage positions, moving it far beyond a simple on-ramp or off-ramp for fiat currency, while providing advanced functionality within OKX’s trading infrastructure.
Deposits and withdrawals for RLUSD are enabled via the XRP Ledger (XRPL), with direct minting and redemption for consistent liquidity access.
OKX’s ambition to build a new financial ecosystem
This strategic investment round is a clear endorsement of OKX’s ambition to transcend its identity as a mere crypto exchange. The company is aggressively building a full-stack financial technology platform, with its roster of new investors providing the expertise and connections to make it happen.
Circle brings unparalleled stablecoin experience, SC Ventures offers a direct line into global banking, and Ripple provides a powerful network for cross-border payments and tokenization. The strategy is already bearing fruit.
On the same day the Ripple investment was announced, OKX launched OKX Money, a new standalone application for users to save, send, and spend dollar-backed stablecoins. Supporting over 50 currencies and offering a choice of USDG, USDC, or USDT, the app is a direct push into the mainstream payments space, competing with both crypto-native wallets and traditional fintech apps.
The platform’s massive scale is a key asset in this expansion. The partnership gives Ripple’s RLUSD significant distribution reach to OKX’s base of over 120 million global customers. This reach is critical in a market that has recently seen both significant market shifts and new highs for major cryptocurrencies.
For Ripple, this is an invaluable channel to drive adoption for its stablecoin and, by extension, the broader XRP Ledger ecosystem.
OKX was also named the official sponsor of XRP Las Vegas 2026, an event for the XRP community. That event ran through May 1 in Las Vegas, further cementing OKX’s engagement with the XRP community.
A steady valuation as a vote of confidence
That OKX maintained its $25 billion valuation from its March 2023 funding round is itself a significant statement. In a volatile market where crypto company valuations have seen wild fluctuations, this stability reflects sustained confidence from some of the biggest names in both traditional and digital finance.
The backing of ICE, the owner of the New York Stock Exchange, followed now by a consortium including a global bank’s venture arm, reinforces OKX’s image as a stable, long-term player. This comes as the U.S. government recently eased crypto reporting rules.
This contrasts sharply with the struggles faced by other exchanges and crypto firms over the past few years. For Ripple and the other investors, it represents a belief in OKX’s robust infrastructure, regulatory approach, and strategic vision. It’s a bet not just on the exchange’s current performance but on its potential to become a foundational pillar of the future financial system.
Ripple’s investment blitz continues
The OKX deal is the latest in a series of strategic investments by Ripple as it seeks to expand its footprint in institutional finance and asset tokenization. This aligns with the company’s broader strategy to establish its presence across the crypto ecosystem.
For instance, in August, the firm announced an investment in ZILO and Licuido. Both firms are focused on digital capital market infrastructure, showcasing Ripple’s consistent push into diverse financial sectors.
