- Taylor vs Catterall 2 Running Order, Undercard and Other Key Details
Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall will finally end their bitter feud which was ignited by Taylor’s controversial split decision win over Catterall in their first encounter in Feb 2022.
The pair will clash in their hugely anticipated rematch at the First Direct Arena in Leeds this Saturday, May 25 live on DAZN (worldwide excl US) and ESPN + (USA).
The fight was supposed to happen last month but Taylor was advised by his medical team to postpone the rematch from the originally-announced April 27 date back four weeks to May 25.
Catterall went into the first contest as a big underdog, given little chance by most fans and even though Taylor’s performance was subpar, there was no doubt that Catterall stepped up many levels that night and proved himself to be in the elite mix at 140.
Most felt that Catterall had done enough to dethrone Taylor of his undisputed championship, but a heavily criticised split decision went in the favour of the Scotsman.
2 years on and with another defeat for Taylor, and two wins for Catterall, points decisions over Foley and Linares respectively; the pair will finally run it back.
Taylor vs Catterall Undercard
Chev Clarke has landed a shot at the British cruiserweight title.
The 2020 Olympian (8-0, 6 KOs) faces the former world title challenger Ellis Zorro in the co-feature after Isaac Chamberlain withdrew from the fight.
Zorro (17-1, 7 KOs) was spectacularly knocked out by #1 cruiserweight Jai Opetaial last time out in Riyadh.
But before that, he won the BOXXER tournament at cruiserweight and put together three good wins off the back of that against Dec Spelman, Hosea Burton and Luca D’Ortenzi.
Clarke, who sits at WBA #4, has progressed the quickest out of all of the male Olympians under Matchroom Boxing with the exciting pro dominating a very game Vasil Ducar in September and then stopping Tommy McCarthy inside 4 rounds in January.
Big-punching Irish welterweight prospect Paddy Donovan (13-0, 10 KOs) steps up against the former British champion Lewis Ritson (23-3, 13 KOs).
Ritson hasn’t boxed since his defeat to O’Hara Davies in a final eliminator for the WBA world title last March. Donovan has scored three consecutive stoppage wins on Matchroom shows since parting with Top Rank.
Matchroom wants to make a Paddy Donovan-Lewis Crocker fight in the future and talks are expected to begin if Donovan beats Ritson on May 25 and Crocker gets past Conah Walker on June 22.
Irish lightweight prospect Gary Cully (17-1, 10 KOs) battles Belgium’s one-time European champion Francesco Patera (29-4, 11 KOs).
Patera scored the biggest win of his career in 2018 when he upset then-unbeaten Lewis Ritson to claim the vacant EBU strap. Patera has struggled to land big fights and has mainly boxed in Belgium and Italy but lost to Keyshawn Davis last year in the US.
Cully was halted by Jose Felix in the third round of a major upset last year in Dublin but bounced back to decision Reece Mould in November and now goes into another jump in levels.
