Josh Taylor Dismisses Florian Marku Fight Negotiations, “I’m Not Fighting For That Kind Of Money”

Josh Taylor will return in the new year at Welterweight but it almost certainly won’t be against Florian Marku.

The former Scottish champion has laughed off the suggestion of the fight in an interview with International Boxing News suggesting that Marku doesn’t offer him anything for the bout to make sense.

“We’ve had some talks about Florian Marku but what does he bring to the table apart from a good following?”

“He doesn’t bring anything to the table for me to fight him so what’s the point in fighting him for way less money than I’ve been getting?

Taylor also reveals that the financial offer to face Marku isn’t appealing at all and therefore the bout is a non-starter.

“I’ve got a sort of rough figure of what they’re expecting for the fight and no way, the last time I got paid like that was way before I fought Ryan Martin so like 5 years ago.”

“No, I’m not fighting for that kind of money…He’s yet to beat a credible opponent”

The fight that is far more appealing for fans and Taylor is a rematch with Jack Catterall.

Catterall, who signed with Matchroom earlier this year, should’ve beat Taylor in most people’s eyes when they met in Feb 2022 in Scotland for the Undisputed titles.

The Chorley man was the victim of horrendous judging though and has long been waiting for a rematch which has now turned into a grudge match.

Taylor and Catterall were supposed to meet earlier this year on Sky Sports PPV but the Scottish boxer withdrew with injury and BOXXER’s failure to place rescheduling language in the contract, according to Mike Coppinger, allowed Taylor to pursue a Teofimo Lopez bout instead.

Eddie Hearn told NoSmokeSport.com that he wants to make a rematch between the pair in early 2024 on DAZN.

Taylor, however, claims that whilst he is interested in the Catterall fight, talks for the clash haven’t reached his radar yet.

“I haven’t heard anything about the Jack Catterall fight but obviously, that’s one I’m keen to do again. So hopefully get that one. We’re looking to be boxing sort of February time.”
