EXCLUSIVE: Eddie Hearn On Taylor Catterall Rematch, Prograis vs Haney Update, Opetaia vs Riakporhe Purse Bids And MORE

Taylor Catterall Rematch

NoSmokeSport broke the news on Monday that Jack Catterall’s promoter Matchroom Boxing had reached out to Top Rank to make a rematch between Catterall and former undisputed champion Josh Taylor.

We asked Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn about this today.

“Yeah, there is truth in that. The big problem that we have is finding a suitable venue for that fight namely Manchester Arena and the slot that we have for Jack to fight I don’t think necessarily that’s going to be possible this side of the year.”

“But I expect Jack to fight in October and then we’d like to carry on those conversations maybe in December or more likely in January. We can make that at a catchweight fight, I think it’s the right fight for both. That’s the biggest fight out there for him. We’ve reached out to TR, and hopefully, there’s a future in it.”

Prograis vs Haney

“It would be a massive coup for us obviously we want to be involved in those big fights around that Weight class.”

“To bring Devin Haney back on a Matchroom show would be fantastic and to deliver a big fight for Regis Prograis who recently signed with us.”

It’s a tremendous fight, it’s one of the best fights at 140. It’s not done yet, but we’re in talks. It’s a massive fight so obviously, we’d love to get it over the line.”

Opetaia vs Riakporhe

“Jai feels like he deserves the opportunity to defend in Australia. Because of the split, I think I’m very confident that we win that purse bid. We may do the fight in London on a Matchroom show but the plan is to take that fight to Queensland.”

The split is 65-35 in favour of the Australian. BOXXER represents Riakporhe.

Liam Paro, Steve Spark, and Justis Huni amongst others could feature on the Undercard

EXTRAS

Hearn expects to announce two more main card fights for the Anthony Joshua-Dillian Whyte undercard on Friday. Both could be Heavyweight fights. One of those will include Derek Chisora with an American Heavyweight possibly in the opposite corner, Hearn told Boxing Social.
