George Groves Wants To See Conor Benn Fight Back In Britain, “He’s Missed Here In The UK”

  • Conor Benn headlines in Las Vegas this Saturday against the undefeated American Peter Dobson
  • The fight, which will stream live on DAZN, will begin at 10:30 pm UK time to suit UK audiences
  • Former Super Middleweight champion George Groves wants to see the star fight in the UK again

British star Conor Benn headlines in Las Vegas in an undefeated vs undefeated welterweight clash with American Peter Dobson this Saturday, live on DAZN.

The card begins at 8 pm UK time (3 pm ET) with the main event scheduled around 10:30 pm UK time (5:30 pm ET) so British fans will not have to stay up and can watch Benn at UK primetime.

Benn (22-0 14 KOs) is relishing the opportunity to headline in the boxing capital, a dream most boxers have.

“I never thought I would fight in Las Vegas, let alone headline, so it’s nothing but a blessing,” said Conor Benn. “I’ve got a lot of supporters in America, and I know that people will be travelling over to see me.”

Dobson (16-0, 9 KOs) has claimed in the build-up that Benn is an overhyped boxer and not as good as most believe he is,

However, former super middleweight champion George Groves wants to see Benn box in the UK.

Groves told talkSPORT “Yeah he does (need to fight in the UK) if he wants to continue building his Benn brand and it was phenomenal before the drug tests came out”

Although Benn won his NADP hearing and is free to box worldwide, the BBBofC will not licence him as it stands in the UK and Benn will have to win another hearing in February for that to change.

Benn was being built into a future pay-per-view star in the UK in 2021/2022 with the Brit targeting PPV fights with Kell Brook and Chris Eubank Jr, the latter of which was days away from happening.

“He’s shown that he’s a good fighter, he’s headlining in the Cosmopolitan which is exciting. It’s exciting, headlining Vegas. He’s in there with Peter Dobson who’s undefeated, he’s 16-0.”

Ade Oladipo: “He’s kind of got that (you wanna fight in Vegas, you want to headline, you want to see your name on a billboard).”

Although some have downplayed ConorBenn’s fight this week, competing in Las Vegas is a dream for most fighters, albeit this is on the smaller end of big Vegas nights.

Groves: “No one has all the facts so it’s impossible to take a side. Ideally, something can get done and we can see Benn back in the UK, preferably in a massive fight. He’s a big name, with an interesting personality and a very exciting fighting style. He’s missed, he’s missed here in the UK whilst he’s not fighting.”

Groves concluded by admitting that the UK missed Benn fights as there weren’t many stars coming through in British boxing and a personality and star like Benn was much-needed in British boxing.
