Boxing Bulletin- A look at April’s action!

April is upon us and we have a very exciting month of Boxing ahead!

This month it feels like a bit of momentum is building up in the boxing world. First up Anthony Joshua makes his much-anticipated return to The Lions Den, The o2 in London this weekend. AJ, with new trainer Derrick James, will be looking for a fresh start after back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk. He takes on American Jermaine Franklin who narrowly lost to Dillian Whyte in November. With his first fight on DAZN, AJ will be looking to impress as he looks to put himself back in the mix in the Heavyweight division.

Sticking with the heavyweight division Joe Joyce returns to the ring to take on the dangerous Zhilei Zhang of China. Joyce will put his interim WBO belt on the line as he looks to secure a fight and mandatory shot against Usyk. He faces a stern test against Zhang who narrowly lost to Filip Hrgovic last time out, which many people felt he did enough to get the decision.

As pound-for-pound fights go they don’t get much bigger than Gervonta Davis vs Ryan Garcia which takes place on April 22nd in Las Vegas. In a time where many fights aren’t getting over the line due to money or issues with cross platforms, it is great to see PBC and Golden Boy come together to deliver this fight. Without a doubt, the biggest fight of the year so far and all eyes will be on this one to see who comes out on top.

It could have been all so much sweeter if Fury vs Usyk had been agreed for an undisputed clash on April 29th but we still have a bumper month of action all the same. Here are some of the fights we can look forward to;

  • APRIL 8TH- JESSE RODRIGUEZ VS CRISTIAN GONZALEZ- TECH PORT ARENA, TEXAS- MATCHROOM & DAZN (WBO WORLD FLYWEIGHT TITLE)
