Tama Tonga Makes WWE Debut

Former NEVER Openweight Champion Tama Tonga made his WWE debut on the April 12 SmackDown. Tonga was with NJPW from 2010 until early 2024 with his last match with the promotion taking place at New Beginning in Sapporo night two on February 24.

Tonga is the son of respected wrestling legend Haku, and this has been acknowledged by the WWE. Tonga made his pro wrestling debut in late 2008 but would rise to prominence within NJPW as a founding member of the Bullet Club. He would also later go on to form the Guerrillas of Destiny with his brother Tanga Loa before being joined by the younger brother Hikuleo.

During his time with NJPW, Tonga captured the IWGP Tag Team Championship a total of seven times – the most reigns in the title’s history. He also held the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship four times.

On the April 12 edition of SmackDown, Tonga made his WWE debut aligning himself with The Bloodline. He assisted Solo Sikoa in an apparent takeover of the stable as they attacked Jimmy Uso.
