Dana White’s Contender Series Results
Charalampos Grigoriou def. Cameron Smotherman via TKO (round one)
It didn’t take long for Grigoriou to get the finish. He was patient and waited for his opening, but once it came, he landed a beautiful right straight shot that put Cameron down and finished with some ground and pound just one minute into the fight. Can’t look much better than that. Charalampos Grigoriou was awarded a contract, congratulations.
Eduarda Moura def. Janaina Silva via Submission (round one)
Another quick finish in the second fight of the night. Moura got the fight on the ground fast with top control while Silva panicked from the bottom, knowing just how good Eduarda is in the grappling aspect. Eventually, she took her back and just four minutes into the fight, Eduarda Moura locked in a rear naked choke to get the submission finish to keep her undefeated record intact. Eduarda Moura was awarded a contract, congratulations.
Hyder Amil def. Emrah Sonmez via unanimous decision
Both men brought the fight in this one. A very back-and-forth first round with both men pushing hard and you could see the fatigue was creeping in as we head into round two, which was much of the same. It was a majority grappling bout here, with Sonmez’s corner yelling at him to keep it on the feet, because they know he can outbox him. But, it was easier said than done. In round three, though tired, Amil continued to work for the takedown. But, props to Sonmez, he continued to use his defensive wrestling. It was like both men just wouldn’t stop moving and the fatigue was highly visible for both men. Amil ended the round on top with some ground and pound as the fight goes the distance. Hyder Amil picked up the win 29-28 from all three judges to keep his undefeated streak alive. Hyder Amil was awarded a contract, congratulations.
Ibo Aslan def. Paulo Renato Junior via knockout (round one)
It started off as a patient chess match. Both men sizing each other up, throwing some leg kicks and then suddenly it turned to chaos. Renato Jr pushed forward but missed a combo, and allowed Ibo to open up and land a barrage of punches to drop Renato, then Ibo Aslan pounced on his opponent and finished it with some brutal ground and pound. All of his wins are by knockout and this one is no different. Ibo Aslan was awarded a contract, congratulations.
Abdul-Kerim Al-Selwady def. George Hardwick via unanimous decision
In round one, Al-Selwady was easily in control. Whole Hardwick tried to stay back and make reads, Al-Selwady pushed forward and put the pressure on Hardwick, mixing it up with head and body shots. In the second round, Hardwick started to find some momentum and it became a back-and-forth striking match. Al-Selwady didn’t slow down as Hardwick fired up and we had ourselves a fight going into the third and final round. In round three, it was much of the same as the previous round. A back and forth scrap, but Al-Selwady just looked sharper. From footwork to faints and shot selection, Al-Selwady proved that he shouldn’t have been the underdog coming into this. The fight went the distance and in the end, Abdul-Kerim Al-Selwady gets the unanimous decision to win 30-27 from all judges. Abdul-Kerim Al-Selwady was awarded a contract, congratulations.
Another week where all five winners earn contracts with the UFC. Dana White’s Contender Series continues to produce great fights where everyone is putting their best foot forward to earn the contracts. Now, we have ten new UFC Fighters in two weeks. Hopefully, we can keep the ball rolling every Tuesday night on ESPN+.
