With the Lightweight Championship on the line, the main event features a showdown between reigning champion Islam Makhachev and challenger Dustin Poirier. UFC 302 Main Event: Makhachev vs. Poirier

Islam Makhachev will defend his Lightweight title against Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 302. Dustin Poirier is coming in after a huge knockout win over Benoit St. Denis at UFC 299. A fight where Dustin was doubted, but proved he’s still in the top of the division. But, he steps into the cage against the champion on a 13 fight win streak.

Islam Makhachev has one loss in his career, early on in 2015. But, since then, Islam has dominated everyone who stepped into his path. Coming off a head kick knockout win over Alexander Volkanovski, Islam looks like an unstoppable force. But, he’s never faced a challenger quite like The Diamond.

But, that’s not all. Dana White also announced the co-main event of UFC 302, which is Sean Strickland vs. Paulo Costa. Both fighters coming off of a loss, they’re looking to bounce back in a big way and get back towards a championship opportunity. Sean Strickland is coming off of losing the Middleweight Championship against Dricus Du Plessis. Paulo Costa on the other hand, is coming off a hard-fought loss against Robert Whittaker.
