Santiago Ponzinibbio Out For September 16, Noche UFC: Grasso Vs. Shevchenko 2
Per his Instagram story, UFC Welterweight, Santiago Ponzinibbio is out of the September 16, Noche UFC event. He was initially set to face Daniel Rodriguez, but Rodriguez was forced out of the fight after failing a drug test in August. Rodriguez tested positive for the banned substance, Ostarine.
Santiago Ponzinibbio Will Not Be Fighting At Noche UFC
This left Ponzinibbio with no opponent with 4 weeks to go until the event. Usually, the UFC is able to find a replacement fighter in situations like these. However, this time around no replacement fighter was announced. This is likely the reason for Ponzinibbio not being able to compete, as there was no apparent injury that he sustained.
It is a bit surprising no one was able to step in, as there were multiple weeks to figure out a replacement for Rodriguez. It is also unfortunate that no fight was able to be made in a main card spot for a UFC veteran like Ponzinibbio. Hopefully, they will be able to get him another main-card matchup in the near future.
