Islam Makhachev vs. Charles Oliveira 2 To Potentially Headline UFC 297
Islam Makhachev is the lightweight champion I n the UFC, recently making a successful title defense when he knocked out Alexander Volkanovski in round one at UFC 294 on October 21, 2023. Now, Islam may be set to fight in January already.
Islam Makhachev Returning In January?
Charles Oliveira was supposed to fight for the title at UFC 294 before he was injured in camp, causing Volkanovski to step in. Now, Ariel Helwani first reported that the rematch between Charles and Islam is the current plan to headline UFC 297 on January 20 in Toronto Canada. Yesterday, it was made official that Raquel Pennington vs. Mayra Bueno Silva for the vacant bantamweight title will be on this event.
Makhachev and Oliveira first fought at UFC 280 last year, where Charles walked in as champion, but was beat by Islam via submission in round 2. Now, finally, the rematch could be upon us. We still await the official announcement from the UFC, but surely it will come soon if everything goes as planned. We will keep you updated on the UFC 297 card.
