CONFIRMED: Wood vs Warrington DAZN Headliner Set For Oct 7 In Sheffield

  • Leigh Wood And Josh Warrington Agreed To Meet For The WBA Featherweight Title
  • Wood vs Warrington Has Now Been Confirmed For October 7 At The Sheffield Arena
  • The Highly-Anticipated Domestic Featherweight Clash Will Stream Live On DAZN

Matchroom Boxing has just confirmed that Leigh ‘Leighthal’ Wood and Josh ‘The Leeds Warrior’ Warrington will clash in a colossal domestic showdown on Saturday, October 7, as was first reported by NoSmokeSport.

The clash between Britain’s #1 and #2 Featherweights will take place at Sheffield‘s 12,500-capacity Utilita Arena, live on DAZN.

Wood’s WBA Featherweight world title will be on the line after the WBA approved a special permit requested by Matchroom for Wood to fight Warrington instead of mandatory challenger Otabek Kholmatov next.

The winner, however, must fight Kholmatov within 120 days. Kholmatov exclusively spoke to NoSmokeSport.com about his mandatory position.

Wood regained his title with a dominant 12-round decision win over Mexican dangerman Mauricio Lara in their May rematch and immediately called out Warrington for a City Ground bout.

Pitch concerns, unfortunately, ruled out Nottingham Forest’s City Ground stadium for Wood-Warrington much to the dismay of lifelong Forest fan Wood.

And with limited availability at Britain’s largest arena, the AO Arena in Manchester, Sheffield has become the destination for a much-anticipated all-British clash.

WBA Super Welterweight champion Terri Harper will defend her title in the co-feature and Hopey Price could face Connor Coghill in a final eliminator for the British Featherweight title on the undercard.
