  • BITTER RIVALS TAYLOR AND CATTERALL SET FOR HUGE REMATCH ON MAY 25
  • ‘The Tartan Tornado’ and ‘El Gato’ look to settle the score at the First Direct Arena in Leeds
  • Taylor vs Catterall 2 undercard to be officially confirmed as date changes from April 27

After more than two years of waiting, bitter rivals Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall will finally meet in a hugely anticipated rematch at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on Saturday, May 25.

Taylor was advised by his medical team to postpone the rematch from the originally announced April 27 date back four weeks to May 25.

All of the action will be shown live on DAZN in the UK (NOT PPV) and around the world and exclusively on ESPN+ in the U.S.

The enemies have been embroiled in a heated war of words since February 2022 when they met on an unforgettable night at The OVO Hydro Arena in Glasgow.

Intense debate has raged in the aftermath of their first fight when Scotland’s Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs) protected his unbeaten record with a hugely controversial split decision points win to retain his Undisputed crown.

During a pulsating battle, Taylor was cut twice by the left eye and was put down by Catterall in the 8th round before he was deducted one point in the 11th for punching after the bell. Catterall, meanwhile, was deducted one point for holding in the 10th.

Chorley’s ‘El Gato’ (28-1, 13 KOs) appeared to outbox Taylor for long periods but ultimately tasted defeat for the first time in his career after Taylor clung to his titles. The decision caused outrage among some boxing fans and the two have been at loggerheads ever since.

In what is one of the most eagerly anticipated rematches in modern British boxing history, the fierce rivals will go head-to-head once more in a 12-round Super-Lightweight contest on neutral territory – with plenty of bad blood and animosity guaranteed in a blockbuster build-up.

Clarke is one of the most exciting fighters in British boxing right now delivering action every time he fights

Zorro (17-1, 7 KOs) was spectacularly knocked out by #1 cruiserweight Jai Opetaial last time out in Riyadh.

But before that, he won the BOXXER tournament at cruiserweight and put together three good wins off the back of that against Dec Spelman, Hosea Burton and Luca D’Ortenzi.

Clarke, who sits at WBA #4, has progressed the quickest out of all of the male Olympians under Matchroom Boxing with the exciting pro dominating a very game Vasil Ducar in September and then stopping Tommy McCarthy inside 4 rounds in January.

Big-punching Irish welterweight prospect Paddy Donovan (13-0, 10 KOs) steps up against the former British champion Lewis Ritson (23-3, 13 KOs).

Ritson hasn’t boxed since his defeat to O’Hara Davies in a final eliminator for the WBA world title last March. Donovan has scored three consecutive stoppage wins on Matchroom shows since parting with Top Rank.

Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing hopes to make a Paddy Donovan vs Lewis Crocker all-Irish welterweight bout later this year

Matchroom wants to make a Paddy Donovan-Lewis Crocker fight in the future and talks are expected to begin if Donovan beats Ritson on May 25 and Crocker gets past Conah Walker on June 22.

Irish lightweight prospect Gary Cully (17-1, 10 KOs) battles Belgium’s one-time European champion Francesco Patera (29-4, 11 KOs).

Patera scored the biggest win of his career in 2018 when he upset then-unbeaten Lewis Ritson to claim the vacant EBU strap. Patera has struggled to land big fights and has mainly boxed in Belgium and Italy but lost to Keyshawn Davis last year in the US.

Gary Cully was stopped by Jose Felix in 3 rounds when the pair met last year in Dublin on the undercard of Katie Taylor

Cully was halted by Jose Felix in the third round of a major upset last year in Dublin but bounced back to decision Reece Mould in November and now goes into another jump in levels.
