Subriel Matias vs Liam Paro Possible, 140-pound Title Fight Could Headline DAZN Show In The Summer
- IBF super lightweight champion Matias is contractually a free agent
- Matias’ promoter Orengo believes a fight with Paro is 90% completed
- Matchroom would stage Matias vs Paro in June/July in Puerto Rico
Subriel Matias is a free agent after his win over Ergashev in November. And his next fight looks to be heading to Matchroom and DAZN.
Eddie Hearn has been attempting to sign the IBF 140-pound titleist for almost a year now and it looks like the British promoter might have finally got his man.
Matias is expected to defend his championship next against the unbeaten Aussie southpaw Liam Paro in June/July in Puerto Rico, per reports, as part of a new deal with Matchroom
Subriel Matias Next Fight ‘90%’ Liam Paro
“It’s going to be with Paro. We are in the finishing touches. We are at 90%,” Matias’ promoter Juan Orengo told El Nuevo, “As for the (location), the same. 90% of it will be in Puerto Rico. It will be here and with Paro because it is with him that we are talking. He accepted, I accepted”
Paro is coming off a stoppage win against Montana Love in December. The Australian was forced to pull out of a Robbie Davies Jr fight last March and a Regis Prograis title shot in June due to injury.
Matchroom also represents Richardson Hitchins, who would be mandatory for Matias with a win on April 6 against Gustavo Lemos and has previously worked with WBC champion Devin Haney.
Matias clarified that his next fight would not be with PBC even if a Paro fight didn’t materialise. “We are not with PBC, the matter is more serious. The doors are open with them (PBC), but our next fight is not going to be with them”
