Berlanga vs Quigley

Diaz stated that the Quigley vs Berlanga fight holds immense importance for both fighters, particularly for Quigley. He acknowledged the significance of Berlanga’s trajectory and said, “It’s like when Jason fought Shane Mosley Jr, maybe right after the fight there wasn’t a lot of credit given but since then what has Shane done…”, referring to how fighters’ performances can gain relevance over time. During the interview, Roberto Diaz was also asked to share his thoughts on the contractual dispute between Ryan Garcia and Oscar De La Hoya. He expressed concern about the matter being publicized, saying, It’s just unfortunate that we’re seeing it all in public. That should be taken care of behind closed doors and ironed out either way whether it’s in with a good outcome, a positive outcome, or a negative one, shake hands and wish each other well.” He hopes that both parties will reach an amicable resolution.

The former Golden Boy matchmaker was asked about the company’s recent turbulence. Diaz, who has previously parted ways with Golden Boy, provided a stoic take on the matter. “As an outsider now I’m just looking outside looking in and it’s like it hurts a little bit but again it’s part of life, it’s part of boxing, it’s part of sports.” He sees the current phase as a period of ‘dodging and weaving’ for the promotion company.

Canelo vs Charlo?

Also, turning his attention to Canelo Alvarez, Diaz seemed excited about the possibility of a fight between Canelo and Charlo. He stated, “I think it’s a fight that everybody’s been asking for… I think the fight’s fantastic, exciting. Charlo deserves it.” He acknowledged the merits of Charlo and expressed his enthusiasm for the fight.

Diaz ended the interview with a bold prediction regarding the Quigley vs Berlanga fight. There will be a huge parade in Donegal, there will be a huge celebration and a lot of pints to be drunk.”
