Rakhimov vs Nunez Result And Recap
Rakhimov (17-2-1, 14 KOs) started the fight well with the southpaw pressure fighter choosing to do the majority of his work in the last half of the rounds, outworking the Mexican.
Nunez (27-1, 27 KOs) couldn’t miss with that right hand though, and the impact of it showed as early as the second round.
In the fifth round, Nunez badly hurt Rakhimov to the body following on from success in the fourth and Rakhimov was backed up for the majority of the round but refused to wilt, firing back whenever the opportunity presented.
Rakhimov came back into the fight in rounds six and seven with his superior movement and boxing ability at long range against the shorter Nunez. The Mexcian still had his moments of success though as the fight came into short range.
The tide started to change in the eighth round, however, as the more impactful shots of Nunez were starting to affect Rakhimov who was holding his feet on the ropes, hoping to come back with punches whilst on the backfoot.
It was impressive how Rakhimov didn’t go down from the attacks of Nunez in rounds nine and ten as the Mexican pounded away to the body and head and could not miss with big power punches.
The end finally came in the eleventh as it was one attack too many for Rakhimov who covered up, visibly hurt, on the ropes and the referee decided that he’d seen enough fifteen seconds into the round.
