O'Shaquie Foster vs Eduardo Hernandez Officially Ordered By The WBC

O’Shaquie Foster-Rocky Hernandez Targeted For Sept 9 In Houston

  • O’Shaquie Foster vs Eduardo Hernandez Officially Ordered By The WBC
  • Super Featherweight Title Fight Could Land On Sept 9 In Houston, Texas
  • Jessica McCaskill-Sandy Ryan Unified Title Fight Possible On The Undercard

The WBC has now officially ordered their Super Featherweight world champion O’Shaquie Foster to defend his title against the mandatory challenger Mexico’s Eduardo ‘Rocky’ Hernandez.

Matchroom Boxing CEO Frank Smith, who promotes Hernandez, is targeting the fight to headline a DAZN US card on Saturday, September 9 in Houston, Texas.

Foster is a promotional free agent so there are no obvious obstacles to Matchroom staging the bout as long as the offer is suitable to both parties.

The American won his title with a convincing unanimous decision over the 36-0 Rey Vargas in a Showtime headliner in February.

The 29-year-old aimed for a unification bout with Wales’ Joe Cordina but the clash doesn’t make economic sense this year, per promoter Eddie Hearn, and will be explored again next year.

Rocky Hernandez produced back-to-back stoppage wins on Matchroom shows in 2022 before inking a contract with them earlier this year.

He made an explosive Matchroom debut in July and now aims for a first title shot. Hernandez’s sole defeat came in the opening round to Roger Gutierrez in 2019.

O’Shaquie Foster vs Eduardo Hernandez Potential Undercard

Unified champion Jessica McCaskill and WBO title holder Sandy Ryan could collide on the undercard in a transatlantic, #1 vs #2 matchup at 147-pounds for three welterweight titles. The pair have agreed terms, another option for this fight is being paired with a Dmitry Bivol card in October.

Smith confirmed to iFL TVs Colm McGuigan that Richardson Hitchins will box on the card. It was revealed earlier in the week that Montana Love is unlikely to be ready in time after recovering from an injury, so a bout with Sergey Lipinets could be explored again.

Ammo Wiliams could appear on the show as well as his fight with Felix Cash is no longer expected to take place next.
