- Britain’s Natasha Jonas Will Face American Mikaela Mayer Next
- The Bout Will Headline A BOXXER Card In Liverpool On Jan 20
- The Card Will Stream Live On Sky Sports (UK) And ESPN + (US)
NoSmokeSport.com has learnt that Natasha Jonas will defend her IBF Welterweight strap against Mikaela Mayer in her next fight on Saturday, January 20 at Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena.
It will be a joint promotion between Ben Shalom’s BOXXER and Bob Arum’s Top Rank with the card streaming live on Sky Sports in the U.K..
Jonas and Mayer have both lost to Undisputed champions in recent years, namely Katie Taylor and Alycia Baumgardner.
Britain’s Jonas claimed the title with an 8th-round TKO win against the overmatched Kandi Wyatt earlier this year.
Mayer has had two tune-ups in the UK at 135 and 140 since her defeat to Baumgardner last October. She now moves up another weight class for the Jonas fight – a three-weight jump from her last significant fight.
The American last appeared on a Sky Sports broadcast in September where Jonas was commentating and the general takeaway from there was that a fight between the pair could be made easily enough.
Mayer will struggle to land big fights from 135-147 as most of the belts are tied up at Matchroom so she has to take a major jump to land another marquee fight.
