BOXXER look to be planning a Chris Eubank Jr (32-3, 23 KOs) vs Liam Smith (33-3-1, 20 KOs) rematch for Saturday, September 2.

Joe McNally, the trainer of Smith, has confirmed to Boxing News that Liam Smith is in training for a fight in the ‘first week of September’ but the Smith camp is unsure as of yet whether it will go through.

Eddie Hearn, last month, inadvertently let slip that George Warren had informed him that Eubank Jr-Smith was planned for September 2 whilst Hearn was insistent on Eubank fighting Conor Benn instead on September 23.

Smith sensationally stopped Eubank Jr in the fourth round when they met in January at a sold-out AO Arena in Manchester.

It was the first stoppage defeat for the man from Brighton, with the Liverpudlian an underdog going in.

The pair were meant to meet for the second time at the same arena on June 17 and then July 1 but Smith withdrew both times from their Sky Sports Box Office main event fight.

Eubank has always been praised for his punch resistance and many felt that Smith’s KO victory was the result of the weight cut which saw him have to be 157 lbs for the Benn super fight.

The Confirmation Of Liam Smith vs Chris Eubank Jr 2 Is Dependent On The Conclusion Of Conor Benn’s Case

The preference for Eubank Jr is to go into a DAZN PPV Benn fight on Sep 23 at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

This is, however, dependent on a positive result for the undefeated Welterweight in his UKAD hearing which reportedly reaches a conclusion in the next couple of days.

A report from The Times revealed that Benn had hired a new team of scientists working on his behalf who will attempt to prove to UKAD that the presence of clomifene in his sample is consistent with contamination.

Medical experts believe are confident in showing Benn’s innocence through a combination of Benn’s biological reaction to clomiphene in the body and the consumption of eggs.
