THE ROCKY MOMENT – O’Shaquie Foster makes the first defence of his WBC Super Featherweight world title against his mandatory challenger, Mexico’s Eduardo ‘Rocky’ Hernandez in Cancun this Saturday.

Foster won the strap with a comfortable unanimous decision over the 36-0 Rey Vargas in a Showtime headliner in February.

The 29-year-old hoped to unify titles with Joe Cordina but the clash couldn’t get over the line for this year and will now hope to make a statement in Mexico before re-exploring a matchup with Cordina, who fights next Saturday in Monaco.

Hernandez was a highly-rated prospect under Golden Boy before a shock opening-round knockout defeat to Roger Gutierrez in 2019.

He made a comeback onto the world scene in 2022 when he produced back-to-back stoppage wins on Matchroom shows, before inking a contract with them earlier this year.

After an explosive Matchroom debut in July, Rocky looks to upset the odds against Foster and take his place in a potential unification clash with Cordina.

O’Shaquie Foster vs Eduardo Hernandez Undercard

Australian Heavyweight Justis Huni makes his long-awaited Matchroom debut against Andrew Tabiti.

The pair were slated to meet in New Orleans in June, but an ankle injury in sparring for the Aussie amateur standout just weeks before the bout forced the bout to be postponed.

Huni (7-0 4 KOs) will be champing at the bit to get back in the ring and kick off his new dawn with Matchroom after penning a two-year deal with Hearn in February.

The 24-year-old fights in the States for the first time in his career against former Cruiserweight World title challenger Tabiti (20-1 16 KOs) in his second fight at Heavyweight following a successful first bout against James Wilson in Jeddah. Saudi Arabia in August 2022.

Eduardo ‘Sugar’ Nunez (24-1, 24 KOs) meets Oscar Escandon (27-6, 18 KOs) over ten rounds at Super Featherweight.

Sugar Nunez scored a knockout of the year contender against Jesus Martin Ceyca in March – the latest of 14 consecutive wins, with all of them coming by KO, since a sole 2018 defeat.

Colombia’s Escandon, 39, is a naturally much smaller man, three inches shorter and starting his career eight pounds lighter.

With four knockout defeats in his last five fights, many feel this fight is only going one way agaisnt a puncher like Nunez.

The show kicks off with unbeaten Middleweight Javid Beltran (10-0 4 KOs) takes on Jose Rosas Meza (4-2 3 KOs) over eight rounds.
