Eddie Hearn on Ben Whittaker
Hearn, who was very close to securing Whittaker’s signature out of the Olympics, is confident of signing Whittaker at some point.
“I’m sure Ben Whittaker will be a Matchroom fighter one day”, Hearn told BoxingNews, “I don’t know what his contractual situation is but I see the kid being a star.”
The British promoter believes his global platform, which we’ve seen utilised by the likes of Johnny Fisher and Junaid Bostan, would allow Whittaker to grow his stock in the UK, USA and internationally – something his rivals can’t offer.
“The problem is, you’ve got to build him in the UK but you got to fight him internationally. He should be on the Canelo/Haney/Saudi cards. They (BOXXER) don’t have shows (in the US).”
“If Ben has aspirations to be a superstar, then obviously he’ll want to be with Matchroom.”
