Eddie Hearn Confirms Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder is Agreed, But Hinges on Joshua vs Whyte Outcome

In a recent interview with Eddie Hearn on Talksport, important revelations regarding the future of heavyweight boxing were made. Hearn confirmed that a fight between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder is locked in for December. However, this highly anticipated matchup is contingent on Joshua’s performance against Dillian Whyte on August 12th.

Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder is Agreed

Hearn stated, “AJ’s got the Wilder fight locked in December… but he wants to risk it all against Dillian Whyte because he loves the fight, he loves the excitement, he loves the thrill.” He explained that Joshua didn’t want an easy, non-meaningful fight before Wilder; he wanted a real challenge and Dillian Whyte provided just that.

However, there’s a catch. Hearn revealed that if Joshua loses to Dillian Whyte, the fight with Wilder could be in jeopardy. He said, “We’ve been told categorically that the deal on the table is not the deal if he loses to Dillian Whyte. They didn’t want him to fight Dillian Whyte… but AJ said no, I want to fight.”

This statement suggests that the stakes are incredibly high for Joshua. Not only would a loss to Whyte be a major setback, but it would also cast doubt over one of the most awaited fights in heavyweight boxing – Joshua vs Wilder.

Hearn emphasizes how important it is for Joshua to not just win, but to do it convincingly. “I think if AJ can win by knockout in this fight it puts a massive statement out to the heavyweight division and you go into that Wilder fight with plenty of confidence,” he said.
