Brazilian amateur star Beatriz Ferreira (3-0, 1 KO) passed a big step up with flying colours at the weekend when she dominated Mexico’s Karla Ramos Zamora in their eight-round Super-Featherweight contest.
Zamora stopped Jessica Camara inside four rounds in her last contest. Many felt Camara did enough to beat Kali Reis in their 2021 unified title fight.
In the aftermath of her win, Twitter users suggested a potential matchup between Ferreira and Caroline Dubois in the next few years.
Ferreira’s promoter Eddie Hearn responded to the tweet in an interview with Matchroom Boxing. “”I saw someone tweeted ‘what a fight Ferreira vs Dubois would be’, why not make it now? (Ferreira) doesn’t want to be marinated, she wants the big fights now. That’s a war.”
Caroline Dubois On Hearn’s Ferreira Suggestion
Dubois responded to Hearn’s suggestion of a fight between the pair next in an interview with SLOTHBOXX.
The 2020 Olympian slammed the promoter for the job he was doing with the Brazilian, believing that she should own a slot on the main card rather than the prelims where she has had her last two fights.
“I think Eddie needs to do a lot better job. He’s got the Olympic Silver Medalist on before the bell, it’s a joke.”
“If me and her fought, I guess he’d have us the first fight on the card the way that this is going. He’s doing a terrible job at promoting. He’s talking about me jumping in the ring with her, what for pennies?”
Dubois doesn’t believe the time is right for a fight with Ferreira which could rightly be marinated into a significant fight and potentially a unification.
Ferreira as an Brazilian who doesn’t speak English is always going to be harder to build in the US/UK compared to a British olympian.
“She’s a great Champion, she’s just as good, even better than Mikaela Mayer”, Dubois commented on Ferreira, “He’d (Hearn) have us fight for nothing. I’m not fighting a person who he doesn’t even think is good enough to put on the main card, he’s delusional.”
The 22-year-old spoke highly of the South American’s ability and argued that the risk-reward in that matchup doesn’t weigh up as of yet.
She also labelled Hearn ‘delusional’ for suggesting the fight should be next and criticised him for not placing her higher up the card for her fights whilst Dubois has been as high as chief support on a card.
