Dennis McCann will face a huge test against perennial European level contender Ionut Baluta at the York Hall, London, this Friday, August 18th, live on TNT Sports (formally BT Sport).
McCann, who won the Commonwealth title against Joe Ham Jnr last November, was due to be out in April, however, injury prevented his return. He will return to the ring in August, headlining his first show.
At just 22 years of age, McCann is seen as one of Britain’s brightest prospects, having had TV exposure on his debut, on the undercard of Billy Joe Saunders vs Shefat Isufi at the Stevenage Football Stadium in May 2019. He has been a regular feature on BT Sport since, with impressive wins against the previously mentioned Joe Ham Jnr, as well as James Beech.
Ionut Baluta is a name that fight fans will know well. His aggressive all-action style has caught the attention of fans in Britain and Ireland, as the Romanian has become a regular fixture in British rings.
Holding multiple upset victories over big names like TJ Doheny, David Oliver Joyce, Brad Foster and most recently Andrew Cain earlier this year in a fight of the year contender, as well as extremely competitive fights with Michael Conlan and Liam Davies, Baluta is certainly an extremely good acid test for any prospect looking to push onto the world scene.
Should McCann get through Baluta there is potential for a huge domestic fight with Liam Davies down the line. Davies is also part of the Queensberry banner under TNT Sports.
