Wood vs Warrington Undercard CONFIRMED

  • Leigh Wood And Josh Warrington Will Clash For The WBA Featherweight Title
  • The Fight Will Take Place On October 7 At The Sheffield Arena, Live On DAZN
  • Here Is The Confirmed Wood vs Warrington Undercard And Ticket Info

Matchroom Boxing confirmed on Monday that Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington will clash in a colossal domestic showdown on Saturday, October 7, as was first reported by NoSmokeSport.

The clash between Britain’s #1 and #2 Featherweights will take place at Sheffield‘s 12,500-capacity Utilita Arena, live on DAZN.

Wood’s WBA Featherweight world title will be on the line after the WBA approved a special permit requested by Matchroom for Wood to fight Warrington instead of mandatory challenger Otabek Kholmatov next.

The winner, however, must fight Kholmatov within 120 days. Kholmatov exclusively spoke to NoSmokeSport.com about his mandatory position.

Wood regained his title with a dominant 12-round decision win over Mexican dangerman Mauricio Lara in their May rematch and immediately called out Warrington for a City Ground bout.

Pitch concerns, unfortunately, ruled out Nottingham Forest’s City Ground stadium for Wood-Warrington much to the dismay of lifelong Forest fan Wood.

And with limited availability at Britain’s largest arena, the AO Arena in Manchester, Sheffield has become the destination for a much-anticipated all-British clash.

Wood vs Warrington Undercard

Terri Harper vs Cecilia Braekhus

WBA Super Welterweight champion Terri Harper (13-1-1 6 KOs) will defend her title in the co-feature against the former pound-for-pound No.1, Norway’s Cecilia Braekhus (37-2, 9 KOs).

The pair were originally supposed to meet earlier this year, but Braekhus was forced to withdraw from their fight on the morning of the event due to an illness. Harper returned the week after against Ivana Habazin instead, coming off best in a very competitive fight.

Harper’s WBA championship as well as the WBO title, which was recently vacated, will be on the line for the division #1 and former undisputed champion’s contest.

Doncaster’s Harper, who previously held a world title at 130, won the WBA 154lbs championship by dominating Hannah Rankin in Nottingham last year.

Both of Breakhus’s defeats have come to Jessica McCaskill in 2020 and 2021 and the ‘First Lady’ has not been in a big fight since. The Norwegian is a pioneer of Women’s boxing and will be no easy task for Harper.

Kieron Conway vs Linus Udofia

In what could be the pick of the undercard, Kieron Conway and Linus Udofia meet in a British title final eliminator for Denzel Bentley’s 160-pound championship.

Udofia’s sole defeat came to Bentley in their British fight-of-the-year contender for the Lonsdale belt last May. Most observers felt it was a razor-tight clash that could’ve gone either way.

Conway isn’t short of experience when it comes to being on the big cards. The Northamptonian has boxed twice on Canelo Alvarez undercards in the US falling short both times.

He also holds the best win of the pair, a 10-round decision over WBA #3 JJ Metcalf, who has gone on to upset Kerman Lejarraga in Bilbao and win the IBO world title.

Hopey Price vs Connor Coghill

Leeds southpaw Hopey Price (11-0) will face undefeated Connor Coghill (14-0) in a final eliminator for the British Featherweight title currently held by Nathaniel Collins.

Hull southpaw Coghill, who won the Central Area belt with a tight decision over Kane Salvin last year, has spent most of his career on the small-hall scene and now gets a big TV opportunity against the talented Leeds prospect.

Price recorded a career-best win in Sheffield over James Beech Jnr with a 7th-round RTD in July. The 23-year-old has struggled to maintain momentum so far but will hope a win here on Oct 7 sets him up for big fights in 2024.

Junaid Bostan vs Corey McCulloch

Super Welterweight prospect Junaid Bostan (6-0, 5 KOs) will box for the sixth time in just fourteen months on the show.

Bostan convincingly decisioned unbeaten Area champion Ryan Amos in his last outing and once again will step up the opposition against Corey McCulloch (7-3-1).

Scottish champion McCulloch claimed the championship and Fraser Wilkinson’s 0 in their rematch in May.

OTHERS

Nico Leivars (4-0-1) steps up the competition against former southern area champ Ryan Walker (12-5) over eight rounds at Super Bantamweight.

Sam Jones-managed Amateur sensation Cameron Vuong makes his highly-anticipated professional debut over four rounds at Super Featherweight. Vuong, who won the Senior Elite ABA’s earlier this year, is trained by the famous Birtley gym. 8-18 Engel Gomez will welcome Vuong to the paid ranks.

A sixth professional appearance awaits Leeds Bantamweight prospect Koby McNamara (5-0) with journeyman Francisco Rodriguez (1-17) hoping to extend McNamara the distance.
