Eddie Hearn Confirms Dillian Whyte’s Team Has Accepted To Fight AJ Next
In a surprising twist in the heavyweight division, it has been revealed that British Heavyweight Dillian Whyte has accepted an offer for a fight with Anthony Joshua, opening the doors for a potential rematch. Promoter Eddie Hearn shed light on the ongoing negotiations during a recent interview with SecondsOut.
According to Hearn, there were initial hiccups in the negotiation process. “We made them an offer and they came back… the exact words were ‘it’s unacceptably low’ and nowhere near what they’d be looking for for the fight, so we didn’t really go back to them on that,” Hearn explained. However, things took a different turn when Dillian Whyte announced during a TalkSport interview that he had accepted the offer.
Eddie Hearn Confirms An Offer Was Accepted
Hearn, eager to seize the opportunity, reached out to Whyte’s team to confirm. “I went straight to his team and said ‘do you accept the offer’ and they said yes, so I said okay we’ll send a contract today,” said Hearn. He hinted that the fight could be finalized swiftly if both parties were serious and moved at pace.
Hearn also addressed the tension between him and Whyte, stating that it’s unusual for Whyte to express frustration with him. “I don’t know… whether there just isn’t the fights out there or the money out there that he wants,” he speculated.
Despite Dillian Whyte’s acceptance, Eddie Hearn remained tight-lipped about the final opponent for Anthony Joshua. “We have two contracts out with other fighters at the moment to make [a fight] on August 12th, and I don’t want to jeopardize those fights,” he explained.
