Trick Williams Becomes New NXT North American Champion At No Mercy 2023
‘Dirty’ Dom won the NXT North American Championship in mid-July, making it the young Mysterio’s first singles title. Since then, Mysterio has faced several challengers and, at No Mercy, he found himself in the position of defending his gold once again.
Trick Williams has been finding his footing as a solo star and, with a newfound confidence in himself, he managed to insert himself into a match to determine the next challenger for Mysterio’s championship. On the September 26 edition of NXT, Williams overcame three other equally determined competitors to punch his ticket to Bakersfield, California.
Dragon Lee served as the special guest referee for the match, serving as the equalizer but the champion had a trick or two up his sleeve. Mysterio would bump Lee, as well as a replacement referee, before attempting to use any means to retain. This saw ‘Dirty’ Dom attempt to even use the very title they were contesting for to get the victory. But this would not work out for Mysterio this time.
Williams managed to overcome all the odds thrown at him by Mysterio to pick up the pinfall victory. This marks the first singles title of Williams’ WWE career.
