Ring Of Honor Results: April 13, 2023

Ring Of Honor is back for the seventh episode on HonorClub. Tonight’s show kicks off with Mark Briscoe in singles action. We will also see Ring Of Honor Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata and ROH Women’s Champion Athena in action respectively. Plus, the World Championship is on the line in the main event when Claudio Castagnoli defends against the king of the ropes, Metalik.

This is a different task than what Claudio has recently defended against. Metalik is a high-flying veteran who uses his quickness and the ropes to his advantage, a far cry from Claudio’s recent opponents such as Eddie Kingston.

Claudio tried to stick to his technical roots at the start, but Metalik was just too fast, too slick, and was countering whatever the champion had to offer. Castagnoli continued to stick to the game plan and it started to pay off. Countering the high flying moves into back breakers, hitting uppercuts and really working over the joints of Metalik to slow him down.

As the challenger tried to catch the champion off guard with his reversals and quick pin attempts, it was only making Claudio more angry, in turn making him more vicious. Landing brutal strikes and kicks, he stuck on the challenger and really neutralized his back and legs, keeping the flyer off of his feet.

Metalik wouldn’t give up so easily though, he continued to try his best to fight back, even hitting a very neat pop-up sling blade and following it up with a huge outside dive. He had Claudio reeling for a moment and got a close near fall from a top rope splash, but Castagnoli just needed one shot to slow him down and drilled Metalik with a huge lariat to stop Metalik in his tracks.

It was a great showing from Metalik with his first shot at the Ring Of Honor World Championship, but in the end, Claudio Castagnoli landed his neutralizer finisher to retain his title.
