David Finlay Becomes Champion
David Finlay defeated Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley at Wrestle Kingdom 18 to become the inaugural IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion. The three-way match was one of the most highly anticipated of the event and, with the unveiling of the new title at the pre-event press conference, the stakes were running high.
Ospreay and Mox had made it clear that they intended to take out Finlay early in the match so they could effectively make it a one-on-one match-up. They managed to do this but Finlay managed to bounce back and get back into the match.
Finlay would ultimately win the match, becoming the first holder of NJPW’s newest championship. This becomes the Bullet Club leader’s second singles championship within NJPW, following a reign in mid-2023.
Following the match, Finlay acknowledged and confronted Nic Nemeth (Dolph Ziggler), who was sat ringside, before the two engaged in a brawl.
