Fabricio Andrade TKOs John Lineker To Become ONE Bantamweight World Champion
Following the controversial no-contest in their first match, Fabricio Andrade and former champion John Lineker faced off once again as the main event for ONE Fight Night 7. The two faced off for the vacant Bantamweight championship, which became vacant following Lineker missing weight for their first contest.
Both men wasted no time unloading their offense. Lineker mixed in some takedowns early in the first round and landed some powerful punches on Fabricio. Andrade was able to weather the storm and land his own powerful shots, wobbling and unloading combinations on Lineker in the closing moments of the first round.
Lineker came out strong in the second round and both men landed scoring blows. Lineker continued to try to mix in some takedowns but Andrade displayed impressive takedown defense. The back-and-forth battle continued on the feet in round 2 and Andrade began finding success with his jab and using his superior reach.
Lineker continued to start each round strong, attempting a takedown and connecting on the feet to start round 3. However, Andrade continued to display an impressive jab, landing numerous throughout the round in between the counters and offensive flurries from Lineker. Once again, Lineker shot for a takedown to close out the round but Andrade was able to sprawl and end the round on top in a dominant position.
To start round 4 Lineker was able to land a wobbling blow but Andrade was able to recover and land combinations of his own. Both men appeared to slow down at this point in the fight but both continued to throw to the body and head. Andrade was able to open up a cut on the right eye of Lineker and it appeared to be bothering him as the round came to an end.
Lineker’s vision seemed to be compromised and his corner stopped the fight before the 5th and final round. Resulting in Fabricio Andrade becoming the new ONE Bantamweight World Champion at age 25.
