Leon Edwards Retains His Title At UFC286

Leon Edwards successfully defended his welterweight title by winning a points decision against Kamaru Usman at UFC 286 in London. The fight took place at the O2 Arena in front of Edwards’ home fans, seven months after the pair’s previous encounter in Salt Lake City.

Despite a nervy, action-packed fight, Edwards earned the majority decision victory, extending his unbeaten streak to 12 fights. He won 48-46 on two of the judges’ scorecards, while the third saw it as a draw, 47-47. However, Edwards had a point deducted in the third round for a fence grab, which added to the balance of the fight.

After the fight, Colby Covington called out Leon Edwards, saying that he didn’t see anything special in his performance and that he should come and fight him on American soil in July during International Fight Week. However, Edwards can bask in the glory of his victory for now, as he leaves The O2 with the UFC welterweight title still around his waist.

Dana White has since confirmed he intends to make the Leon Edwards vs Colby Covington fight next.

Nevertheless, Edwards remains the UFC welterweight champion, with the judge’s decision and the point deduction not affecting his title reign.
