Dricus Du Plessis Blasts Chael Sonnen Over “Dumb” Comments

Dricus Du Plessis was seemingly the number one contender for Israel Adesanya’s UFC Middleweight Championship after defeating Robert Whittaker at UFC 290 back in July. But, due to an injury, Dricus was unable to fight, thus Sean Strickland becoming number one contender and defeating Adesanya for the belt at UFC 293.

Following the news that Du Plessis couldn’t make the fight act UFC 293, UFC veteran and former champion Chael Sonnen questioned if Dricus was even hurt, saying he wasn’t even limping when walking out of the cage back in July. Now, Dricus Du Plessis spoke on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani where he responded to Chael’s comments. After reiterating what Sonnen said, Dricus replied; “What a dumb thing to say, you know? With all that adrenaline in your body, just knocked out Whittaker, just faced off with Israel Adesanya, you think I’m going to walk with a limp? I don’t know what kind of man you are, but, I’ll fake that limp every day.”

Dricus Du Plessis did injure his foot in the fight, and sadly, the UFC brass wasn’t happy with this and seemingly moved him to the back of the line. Despite many fans believing Du Plessis should be the number one contender, it seems like Dana White himself isn’t too keen on it and hasn’t given a clear answer on whether or not Dricus Du Plessis gets the next title shot.
