Celebrity boxing matches have been a novelty for years. But what happens when an actor meets a martial artist in a boxing ring? Well, that’s exactly what’s happening with Terry Crews vs. Anderson Silva. The boxing bug seems to be surpassing just combat sport crossover fights and is now starting to leak more into the TV and film industry.
UPDATE: Anderson Silva says he will NOT be fighting Terry Crews. He will instead be fighting Chael Sonen.
Anderson Silva vs Terry Crews Set For June 15
It was revealed today through a series of videos from both Terry Crews and Anderson Silva that they will be competing against each other in a boxing match in Anderson’s home country of Brazil. The bout will take place on June 15th in São Paulo, Brazil, in what’s being billed as “Spider’s Grand Finale.” The legendary MMA fighter retired from mixed martial arts competition in 2020, but following his departure from the UFC, ‘The Spider’ continued to compete as a boxer against the likes of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Tito Ortiz, and even Jake Paul.
Anderson is no stranger to boxing at this point, but his opponent, on the other hand, is a pro football player turned actor, Terry Crews boxing could open the floodgates for other movie and TV stars encouraging them to enter the boxing ring or MMA Octagon, as yet Terry has no known experience inside the squared circle. Crews, best known for his acting roles in “White Chicks,” “The Longest Yard,” and as the host of “America’s Got Talent,” is taking a big risk stepping into the ring against a seasoned veteran. Though Terry Crews does have the size advantage, we’ll see how that affects things come June 15th.
