Aljamain Sterling Plans Featherweight Debut, Wants Holloway

Aljamain Sterling has reached the pinnacle of the Bantamweight division in the UFC. He’s a former champion at 135, and dominated all challengers until he lost to Sean O’Malley this past summer. But, the weight cut to 135 pounds was not easy, and he’s been transparent that he struggled to get down. Now, he’s moving up.

Aljamain Sterling Wants Max Holloway

Former UFC champion Demetrious Johnson interviewed Sterling on his YouTube channel where he asked Aljamain about the move up to 145. Sterling said “That’s, I would say, officially what I think I’m going to be at.” Demetrious went on to bring up Aljamain’s past hints at a potential Max Holloway callout, and Aljamain confirmed that’s exactly who he wants.

“Why not shoot for the stars? I go in and I win one fight against a guy like Max Holloway, I don’t think there’s anybody else to turn to. That guy is the one who’s literally banishing all the contenders one by one. I think UFC 300 could be a fire card, come back for that, or maybe in March.” He went on; “That’s it, I got nothing to lose. Max Holloway, catch me outside, how about that?”

UFC 300 is predicted to be one of the best cards of the year in 2024. Adding Max Holloway vs. Aljamain Sterling to that card would be a fantastic bout for the fans and a great first fight at 145 pounds for Sterling. As of now, nothing is set for UFC 300 and everyone is looking to get on that card, so if they’re not, they could definitely main event any other card the UFC puts on.
