Alexander Volkanovski Completes Successful Surgery

UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski has successfully completed elbow surgery and is on the road to recovery.

Alexander Volkanovski Expects Six-Week Recovery Time

Ariel Helwani first reported on his social media that Alexander and his manager Ash Belcastro told him that his elbow surgery went well. Volkanovski revealed that he’s been dealing with issues with his elbow for well over a year and the pain became unbearable during his most recent fight camp. It’s unclear exactly what the injury was, but Alexander told the media that it is minor. The expected recovery time is six weeks, then he will be back in full contact training.

Alexander Volkanovski took to his Instagram story to show off his fully casted elbow and seemed to be in good spirits. With the recovery being only six weeks, team Volkanovski has not ruled out Abu Dhabi in October as a return fight date, where Alexander has previously showed interest in fighting lightweight champion Islam Makhachev in a rematch. The two fought at UFC 284 for the Lightweight Championship, with Volkanovski moving up a weight. though Islam was declared the winner, many believe that Alexander had a case to win that fight.

Since then, Volkanovski successfully defended his featherweight championship against Yair Rodriguez at UFC 290 on July 8th. Islam on the other hand, has called out Welterweight Champion Leon Edwards for October in Abu Dhabi, seemingly hinting at wanting to move up to get a second title.

Whether it’s against Islam in October or not, we can expect the featherweight champ to be back soon. The pound-for-pound king is on the road to recovery.
