Liam Smith Injured, Smith vs Eubank Jr 2 Postponed, New Date Targeted

– Liam Smith Withdraws From Chris Eubank Jr Rematch With Back Injury

– BOXXER Target July 1 At Manchester Arena As The Rescheduled Date

NoSmokeSport.com has learnt that Liam Smith has withdrawn from his June 17 pay-per-view bout with Chris Eubank Jr due to a back injury.

News of Smith withdrawing was leant by this outlet on Thursday, Mike Coppinger was the first to break the story earlier today.

The pair were supposed to collide for the second time at the AO Arena, Manchester after Smith sensationally stopped Eubank Jr in their January encounter.

An injury to Smith around ten days ago, however, has meant that the fight will now be postponed to July with Ben Shalom’s BOXXER targeting Saturday, July 1 at the same arena as the rescheduled date and venue for the contest.

The injury isn’t a severe one and won’t keep him out of training for long, although he has missed around a week or so of camp which means he will need slightly longer than the original June 17 date.

Staging the fight on July 1 means we will see another clash as Dalton Smith defends his British 140-pound championship against Sam Maxell in Sheffield and the WWE’s ‘Money In The Bank’ has also been announced for July 1 at London’s O2 Arena, live on BT Sport.

Tyson Fury is expected to return to the ring in July, most likely on July 15 indicating that we could see two UK PPV events in two weeks on competing networks. The frontrunner to face Fury is China’s Zhilei Zhang per promoter Bob Arum.
