- American Heavyweight Contender Jermaine Franklin Will Return To The Ring This Weekend
- Franklin Was Supposed To Face 20-4 Junior Anthony Wright, Wright Has Pulled Out
- Franklin Will Face Undefeated Mexican Instead This Saturday, July 15, Live On DAZN
NoSmokeSport.com has learnt that Junior Anthony Wright has pulled out of Saturday’s fight with Jermaine Franklin.
Matchroom is now finalizing a deal with the undefeated Mexican, Isaac Munoz Gutierrez (17-0-1) to step in to face Franklin on the Alycia Baumgardner-Christina Linardatou undercard this Saturday, July 15th at the Masonic Temple, Detroit, Michigan, USA.
The card topped by the undisputed super featherweight championship will stream live on DAZN. Amateur sensation Andy Cruz makes his professional debut on the show. Richardson Hitchins and Montana Love were supposed to meet in the co-feature but Love has withdrawn from the contest.
Franklin will look to get back to winning ways after back-to-back defeats at the hands of Dillian Whyte and Anthony Joshua.
The 29-year-old Michigan native managed to extend both Whyte and Joshua the twelve-round distance with many feeling that he should’ve got the nod in his November bout with the ‘Bodysnatcher’.
AJ’s in was more conclusive but the former unified Heavyweight champion also failed to impress against the awkward Franklin.
Gutierrez hasn’t tasted defeat in twelve years as a professional. His only draw came after a five-year layoff back in 2016,
The Mexican hasn’t really faced an opponent of note yet but will know that he has a big opportunity to upset Franklin and put himself in contention for significant fights like Joe Cusumano just did.
Jermaine Franklin’s Next Fight Contractually Under Matchroom As Part of AJ Deal
The American Heavyweight contender owes one fight to Matchroom Boxing as part of his deal to face Joshua in April.
However, if he is victorious against Isaac Gutierrez, he may continue to battle under the promotional roster which is home to Fillip Hrgovic, Demsey McKean, Fabio Wardley and Joe Cusumano amongst others.
