Jack Catterall vs Darragh Foley To Co-Feature At Manchester Arena On Catterall’s Matchroom Debut

The opportunity of a lifetime has come for Darragh Foley as the Irishmen could be just one more big win away from a world title shot.

NoSmokeSport.com reported last week that undisputed super lightweight title challenger, Chorley’s Jack Catterall (26-1, 13 KOs) was in the process of signing a multi-fight deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing that will see him fight on the DAZN platform moving forwards.

This was made official at a press conference on Friday with plans for him to make his Matchroom debut on June 3 in Abu Dhabi but that was bought forwards to May 27 as soon as it was decided that the card would be in Manchester, which is close to Catterall.

It will be Australian-based Irishmen Foley (22-4-1, 10 KOs) in the opposite corner, NoSmokeSport has confirmed.

News of the fight was first reported by emerging outlet International Boxing News.

Foley upset Robbie Davies Jr via a third-round RTD in their Liverpool bout last month on the Pacheco-Cullen undercard. Davies Jr injured his ankle during a knockdown in the third round of the clash which prevented him from continuing.

Matchroom now has multi-fight options on Foley and attempted to match him with lightweight sensation Gary Cully, but the weight could not be agreed.

Foley now lands an even bigger fight against Catterall, who is the IBF #3, WBC #6 and WBO #5 at 140 and is expected to land another world title shot in the next twelve months.

Should Catterall win on May 27, plans are in place for him to headline at the 20,000-capacity AO Arena in Manchester this September, potentially in a world title clash with American free-agent Regis Prograis, a fight that was discussed before Catterall’s departure from BOXXER.

Catterall vs Foley will be the co-main event of a Matchroom Boxing show on May 27 at the AO Arena in Manchester topped by Mauricio Lara (26-2-1, 19 KOs) and Leigh Wood‘s (26-3 16 KOs) rematch for Lara’s WBA Featherweight title, live on DAZN.
