Frank Warren Sounds Off On Former World Champ for Comments on Riyadh Atmosphere
In a recent interview, Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren had some choice words for a former world champion, who had criticised the supposed lack of atmosphere at the boxing events in Riyadh, including Saturday night’s ‘5 vs 5’ event, which pitted Matchroom vs Queensberry in a first-of-its-kind event.
This comes after Frank Warren saw a night of success in Riyadh, as his team went 5-0 against Matchroom, with highlights including rising star Nick Ball picking up his first world title, Hamzah Sheeraz scoring an impressive knockout win over Ammo Williams, and Zhilei Zhang potentially ending the career of Deontay Wilder. Willy Hutchinson also impressively handed Craig Richards his fourth career defeat to open the card.
Elsewhere on the card Daniel DuBois won an emphatic victory over Filip Hrgovic, potentially setting up a big fight against Anthony Joshua in Wembley this September.
But it is not all positive, with the former super-middleweight world champion, Carl ‘The Cobra’ Froch, criticising the atmosphere, or lack thereof, in Riyadh. He says, ‘The atmosphere tonight in Saudi Arabia was f**king shocking,’ going on to say, ‘People are sat ringside on their phones, they’re not animated’.
Frank Warren Blasts Carl Froch
In the interview, Frank Warren defends the event, stating, ‘It was a great atmosphere’.
Warren then goes on the offensive in response to Froch, saying ‘the green-eyed monster has got him big time […] He’s that fella who’s always on the outside looking in, you know, his nose pressed against the window, he might have to get another operation on it he keeps pressing it up against the window.’
He continued, ‘Who gives a flying f**k about Carl Froch […] all he does is b*tch and moan, b*tch and moan all the time’.
‘You wouldn’t want to be stuck on a deserted island with him […] Well I would like to see him on a deserted island, but not with me’.
Despite Froch’s claims, the ‘5 vs 5’ event seemed to be a success amongst boxing fans. As a result, it’s more than likely we’ll see more cards of this nature in the future.
