Matchroom are targeting the colossal Chris Eubank Jr-Conor Benn clash for September 23 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the UK or alternatively in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Rival promoter Ben Shalom has criticised Matchroom/Eddie Hearn for working on the fight whilst Benn’s UKAD situation lingers in the background.

Shalom believes that Eubank Jr will face Liam Smith next in a rematch, supposedly planned for September 2 in the UK.

Frank Smith has responded to Shalom’s comments on Conor Benn and the claim from the BOXXER CEO that Matchroom were not speaking to Light Heavyweight contender Dan Azeez.

“They have no deal for it just like we have no deal for Eubank Benn. The Eubank Benn fight is a much bigger fight than Eubank Smith.”

“Conor is free to fight in other territories apart from the UK. We believe it’s very close with the UKAD situation.”

The Matchroom CEO is confident that Benn will be able to resume his career this year and most likely in the UK.

“It’s not really his business to talk about it anyway. He can say what he wants but it doesn’t matter.”

Smith said when asked about Shalom’s insistence that Benn must deal with the UKAD case first before engaging in Eubank talks.

(Shalom said Buatsi-Azeez is done) “He’s been saying that for(). He sent a press release out before it was even agreed.”

A press release circulated with BOXXER’s tag on it last week for Buatsi-Azeez on August 19. NoSmokeSport understands that the fight was being worked on for that date but Matchroom’s Smith has claimed terms weren’t agreed at that point.

Shalom claimed that Hearn/Smith were lying when they said they had engaged in talks with Azeez for a potential Dmitry Bivol fight.

“I had a few conversations with Dan Azeez”, Smith told Boxing Social, “You can ask him yourself”.

“Shalom said we didn’t talk to him etc. He was a free agent, I spoke to them two days ago. I had my last conversation with team Azeez”
