- Edgar Berlanga vs Jason Quigley Tops DAZN Card In New York City
- Puerto Rican Star Building Up To Dream 2024 Canelo Alvarez Clash
Super Middleweight sensation Edgar Berlanga (20-0 16 KOs) makes his much-anticipated Matchroom debut against Ireland’s former world title challenger Jason Quigley (20-2 14 KOs) this Saturday, June 24 at what will be a sold-out Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden, New York live worldwide on DAZN.
Puerto Rico’s Berlanga inked a three-fight deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom in the hopes of landing a dream Mexico vs Puerto Rico clash with boxing’s biggest star, Canelo Alvarez – who has fought six of his last seven fights with Hearn.
The 26-year-old has already signed to fight Alvarez in the third fight of his deal but both himself and Hearn are aware that the top 15 fighter needs a signature win before the bout could come to fruition.
Heavy underdog Quigley, who decisioned Shane Mosley Jr before falling short in his world title challenge against Demetrius Andrade, will not be that standout win. But with the last four Berlanga fights going the distance after 16 first-round KOs, the handlers of the Puerto Rican star are aware that he needs an impressive performance and a highlight-reel KO to rekindle the hype.
Should he beat Quigley in impressive fashion, the focus will shift to securing a top 10, if not top 5, super middleweight later in the year; potentially at the big room.
Berlanga’s manager Keith Connolly has already dismissed an all-new York clash with Daniel Jacobs but John Ryder, Jaime Munguia, and Sergey Dereveyanchenko amongst others could be in the mix.
