Devin Haney vs Regis Prograis on December 9th

Devin Haney, with an immaculate record of 30-0 and 15 knockouts, is on a quest to become a two-weight world champion as he ascends from the 135lbs category. The 24-year-old San Francisco native expressed his enthusiasm saying, “It’s been a long time coming. It’s been a dream of mine to fight in my hometown… The energy in the building is going to be electric.” Haney’s journey has seen him triumph over George Kambosos Jr in Australia in June 2022, and defend his title successfully against him again in October, and against Vasiliy Lomachenko in Las Vegas in May.

Opposing him is Regis Prograis (29-1, 24 KOs), ready to defend his WBC title for the second time. The 34-year-old earned his title in a riveting bout against Jose Zepeda, ending in an 11th round knockout in Carson, California, last November. Prograis confidently stated, “Devin has done well at 135lbs but I’m the best in the world at 140lbs and I will prove that once again!… It’s going to be a massacre.”

The clash on December 9th is significant as it marks the first boxing event at the Chase Center since its inauguration in 2019. This world-class venue, with a seating capacity of 18,064, is well-known as the home to the seven-time NBA champion Golden State Warriors and a host to myriad top-tier events and performances.

Promoter of the fight Eddie Hearn remarked, “I am thrilled that we can finally get our teeth into talking about one of the best fights of 2023…the stakes simply couldn’t be higher on what promises to be an electric night of action in San Francisco.”

This fight has been talked up by boxing fans so much in recent months, and come December 9, the Chase Center is set to witness a high-octane clash between two of the Super-Lightweight division’s finest.
