Daniel Dubois Leaves Trainer Shane McGuigan While Sister Caroline Dubois Remains
NEW UPDATE ON THIS STORY: DANIEL OR CAROLINE? The Ultimatum That Father Dave Dubois Gave Trainer Shane McGuigan
Sources have told NoSmokeSport.com that WBA (Regular) Heavyweight champion, Daniel Dubois has sensationally parted ways with leading British trainer Shane McGuigan
However, his sister, Lightweight prospect Caroline Dubois, has chosen to stay with the McGuigan’s gym.
McGuigan is famous for coaching a wide array of talent, including but not limited to Adam Azim, Chris Billam-Smith, Robbie Davies Jr, and Ellie Scotney. He has also previously trained George Groves, Luke Campbell, and most recently Lawrence Okolie.
Details are unclear but NoSmokeSport understands that the move has come following a Dubois family dispute which led to Daniel leaving the gym but Caroline opted to stay.
The parties involved are attempting to keep the situation under wraps which is obviously difficult to do with them both being active professionals.
Caroline’s next fight date was announced today for June 16 at London’s York Hall on the undercard of gym mate Adam Azim’s bout with Ukranian Aram Fanyan. She will face Argentina’s Yanina del Carmen Lescano (13-2, 4 KO’s) in a significant step up as she moves closer to a shot at the world Lightweight title.
Daniel and Caroline Dubois both teamed up with Shane McGuigan in 2021. The former left Mark Tibbs after a short spell whilst the latter turned professional with McGuigan after coming out of the 2020 Olympics.
Her brother Daniel is the mandatory challenger for unified champion Oleksandr Usyk. The pair have surpassed the 30-day negotiation period with no deal in place and the fight is looking likely to head to purse bids.
Whether it actually happens or not with this latest development is yet to be seen. Stay tuned to NoSmokeSport for the latest breaking news, updates, and fight week coverage as it happens.
