Dalton Smith vs Sam Maxwell On The Cards For April

UNCONFIRMED RUMOUR: Dalton Smith vs Sam Maxwell On The Cards For April?

Dalton Smith vs Sam Maxwell Could Be The Third And Final Defence For Smith To Win The Belt Outright

NoSmokeSport has confirmed that British Super Lightweight champion Dalton Smith (13-0, 10 KOs) will headline Sheffield’s 12,000-capacity Utilita Arena in April should he get past Billy Allington (10-1) this Saturday on the Wood-Lara undercard in Nottingham, Live on DAZN.

Smith headlined for the first time when he stopped Sam O’maison for the British title in their Yorkshire derby last August; 5,000+ fans were in attendance. His first defence came on another promoter’s show as BOXXER won the purse bids for his bout with Kaisee Benjamin. Smith won a twelve-round decision on a co-main slot in Manchester last November.

The highly-rated prospect wants to win the belt outright meaning he needs three defences. He makes the second of those defences against Allington this Saturday and should he win there are plans in place for his third and final defence in April. NoSmokeSport understands that both April 15 and 29 are in play as of now but a final decision will be made by the end of this week – stay tuned to NoSmokeSport to hear it first.

There have been rumours for several weeks now that Smith’s April opponent will be Liverpool’s Commonwealth champion, Sam Maxwell (16-1, 11 KOs). Maxwell would be the best win of Smith’s career and a fight worthy of headlining on DAZN.

These rumours strengthened even more when Maxwell was suddenly added to the Wood Lara undercard, the same card where Dalton Smith will defend his title, with a week to go. Maxwell faces Shaun Cooper (13-4, 3 KOs). Smith’s biggest domestic rival Adam Azim attempted to face Maxwell for his Commonwealth title on Feb 11, but the fight fell through after advanced talks happened.

Also on that April card, Terri Harper (13-1, 6 KOs) will defend her WBA Super Welterweight title against former undisputed welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus (37-2, 9 KOs). Harper moved up three weight classes to dominate Hannah Rankin last September to win the belt.

Ellie Scotney (6-0) will face the IBF #2 Maureen Shea (30-2-1) for the interim world title. Youssef Khoumari (14-1-1, 5 KOs) and Reece Bellotti (15-5, 13 KOs) could collide in an eliminator for the British super featherweight championship on this bill as well.
