Curiel vs Nontshinga 2 Undercard: Mauricio Lara Next Fight Set As Mexican Puncher Looks For Explosive Return

Curiel vs Nontshinga 2 Undercard: Mauricio Lara Next Fight Set As Mexican Puncher Looks For Explosive Return

Mexico plays host to another must-watch rematch as Adrien Curiel and Sivenathi Nontshinga run it back for the IBF Light-Flyweight World Title on Friday, February 16 live on DAZN.

Mexico’s Curiel (24-4-1, 5 KOs) ripped up the script by scoring a shocking one-punch knockout of South Africa’s defending champion Nontshiunga (12-1, 9 KOs) in the second round of their highly anticipated showdown in Monaco.

The 24-year-old makes the first defence of his World Title on home soil, determined to prove that his stunning knockout of the year contender wasn’t just a one off. Having tasted defeat for the first time in his career, Nontshinga is aiming to recapture his old belt to keep his dreams of unifying the division alive.

Mexican star Mauricio Lara (26-3-1, 19 KOs) will take the co-feature slot.

Lara himself ripped up the script when he stopped Josh Warrington in their 2021 fight. It took him two long years to finally get his world title shot though, and when he did he took it with both hands, knocking out Britain’s Leigh Wood in seven rounds.

Wood produced a masterful performance in the rematch last May though and took back his crown with a wide decision. Lara looked unfocused in their second encounter, failing to meet the BBBofC’s check weight limits and losing his belt before even entering the ring.

The 25-year-old now returns nine months later against Daniel Lugo (27-2, 18 KOs) over ten rounds as he works towards more big fights.

The all-action Arturo Popoca, better known as Arturo Cardenas, (12-0-1, 8 KOs) will fight for his first professional title.

Robert Garcia-trained Cardenas will face Ernesto Garcia (11-3, 10 KOs) for the WBC Continental Americas super bantamweight title over ten rounds.

Super Bantamweight Sergio Chirino (21-1, 12 KOs) meets Dennis Contreras (24-13-1, 22 KOs) and Brayan Rivera (11-6, 9 KOs) clashes with Daniel Zaragoza Garcia (9-2, 6 KOs) in two more ten-round super bantamweight attractions.

Heavyweight Federico Pacheco Jr (5-0, 4 KOs) and Lightweight Criztec Bazaldua (3-0, 1 KO) will both fight on the undercard.

Bazaldua and the unbeaten Alejandro Castillo (1-0-1) fight over six rounds whilst Jose Mario Tamez (4-2, 1 KO) will look to upset Diego Pacheco’s younger brother.

Julio Porras Ruiz (9-0, 7 KOs) takes on Aaron Rocha Guerrero (10-2-1, 6 KOs) over eight rounds at super middleweight.
