Michael Conlan is back in Belfast before the year’s out… And it will be the first fight in his new partnership with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.

Conlan split with promoter Top Rank and his long-time trainer Adam Booth after his latest defeat and now sets up shop with the backing of veteran coach, Pedro Diaz.

The two-time Featherweight title challenger will take on Britain’s former European champion Jordan Gill (27-2-1, 8 KOs) in a Super Featherweight clash on Saturday in Belfast.

Conlan (18-2, 9 KOs) was last seen in action in May when he was stopped in five rounds by Mexico’s IBF titleist Luis Alberto Lopez.

Before that, he narrowly fell short in the 2022 fight of the year with Nottingham’s Leigh Wood where he succumbed to a twelfth-round knockout defeat.

The Belfast man is looking for another massive fight and if Wood and Josh Warrington don’t rematch either other, it could be one of them. If not, a fight with Joe Cordina has also been mentioned.

Gill has been out of the ring for almost twelve months after being dropped four times by Kiko Martinez in his 4th-round TKO loss.

Their has been some animosity between the pair as Gill is friends with Wood and was celebrating his KO of Conlan which Conlan didn’t take too kindly and referred to him as a ‘fanboy’.
