Date Held At Tottenham Hotspur Stadium As Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn Comes Closer To Reality

  • Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn Was Set For Oct 8 Last Year
  • Benn Failed A Drugs Test And The Bout Was Scrapped With A UKAD Case Ongoing
  • Frank Smith Has Revealed Talks With Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn were set to collide on Oct 8 at London’s O2 Arena last year before a failed drugs test from Benn saw the bout postponed. The pair were once again in negotiations to face off on June 3 but Eubank took a rematch with Liam Smith for significantly less money after time was running out on finalising a deal for Eubank Jr vs Benn.

However, with potentially two postponements of Smith-Eubank 2, the son of British boxing legend Chris Eubank Sr may look to scrap the bout altogether and proceed with the far more lucrative bout with ‘born rival’ Benn.

Benn’s promoter Eddie Hearn is confident the fight will take place next with the promoter confirming that terms were “on the verge” of being agreed again for the British super fight.

One option for Eubank Jr vs Benn is to stage the contest on Saturday, September 23rd in Abu Dhabi, UAE but Hearn is very confident that the fight will take place in the UK despite Benn’s ongoing UKAD case.

Frank Smith Reveals Talks For Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn At Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Eubank Benn sold out the O2 within minutes last year and recorded the highest-grossing gate at the time at the famed arena that has hosted several UFC events, Anthony Joshua fights and more; although that record has since been beaten.

The fight could’ve been held in a stadium last year but with the contest being in October, parties took it to an arena instead. However, now with the fight possible for September, a stadium is back in play and Eddie Hearn has expressed confidence in staging the fight in a UK stadium.

(Tottenham Hotspur stadium for Eubank Jr Benn?) “Yeah, that’s the plan. I’m speaking to Tottenham on Monday”, Matchroom CEO Frank Smith told Boxing Social, “Got a date held with them, hopefully, we get that done”

“It’s a fight we’ve been working on for a long, long time now. Didn’t happen the first time around but hope it can this time around and we’ll have some news soon on that.”

The fight is expected to take place in September and Tottenham are playing at home on both September 16 and September 30. September 23 is the rumoured Abu Dhabi date for Eubank Benn and may also be the date for the fight in the UK.

How Will The UKAD Hearing/Verdict Affect The Fight?

The pair could now look to take their DAZN pay-per-view-fight, which some will argue is bigger than ever, to a British stadium in September but obviously, this is all subject to a positive result for Benn in his UKAD hearing which reportedly takes place next week.

A report from The Times revealed that Benn had hired a new team of scientists working on his behalf who will attempt to prove to UKAD that the presence of clomifene in his sample is consistent with contamination.

Medical experts believe are confident in showing Benn’s innocence through a combination of Benn’s biological reaction to clomiphene in the body and the consumption of eggs.

Trainer Tony Sims told International Boxing News earlier this month that Benn was facing a hearing at the end of June that would determine his ability to compete as a professional athlete in this country.
