As the NoSmokeSport team reported earlier, Bob Arum and Top Rank, outbid Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing to secure promotional rights for the next WBC Light-Heavyweight title defense of Artur Beterbiev. The bout sees the former Super-Middleweight world champion from Liverpool, Callum Smith (29-1, 21 KOs), pitted against the reigning unified Light-Heavyweight champion, Artur Beterbiev (18-0, 18 KOs).
Beterbiev vs Smith Set For August Showdown
In a closely contested bid, Top Rank, home to Beterbiev, won by offering $2,115,000, narrowly outbidding Matchroom by $15,000. The Beterbiev vs Smith fight is scheduled for August 19 at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City, Canada, and will be broadcast live on ESPN.
Callum Smith, who earned his shot by defeating Mathieu Bauderlique, has expressed confidence in winning against Beterbiev in a Sky Sports interview. Beterbiev, who previously defended his titles against Anthony Yarde, has faced challenges in scheduling an undisputed match against Dmitry Bivol due to WBC’s non-endorsement and a potentially lucrative rematch with Canelo Alvarez. He’s also slated to compete in an IBF mandatory match against Michael Eifert in the near future.
Will the Beterbiev vs Smith fight see Artur Beterbiev move to 19-0 with 19 KOs or can Callum Smith take him the distance, or even beat him to ruin his undefeated run, whichever way the fight goes its surely not one to be missed.
