All Irish Fight Offered For Gary Cully’s Slot On Taylor vs Cameron Undercard
Lightweight Gary Cully Could Meet Robbie Davies Jr Conqueror At Undetermined Catchweight
Gary Cully is still trying to finalise an opponent for his slot on the Taylor-Cameron card, and an All-Irish lightweight affair could materialise.
Lightweight sensation Cully (16-0, 10 KOs) signed with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing after his impressive fifth-round stoppage of Miguel Vazquez twelve months ago. Undefeated international opponents Jaouad Belmehdi and Wilfredo Flores have seen out a combined three rounds in his two appearances under the Matchroom banner.
Cully, who is becoming difficult to match, now looks for a big step-up on the May 20 Katie Taylor–Chantelle Cameron undercard at Dublin’s 3Arena live on DAZN. Peter Taylor, the trainer of Cully, revealed to iFL TV that Australian-based Irishmen Darragh Foley (22-4-1, 10 KOs) has been offered the bout.
Foley upset Robbie Davies Jr via a third-round TKO in their Liverpool bout earlier this month on the Pacheco-Cullen undercard. Matchroom now has multi-fight options on him and despite Foley being a weight division higher than the man from Naas, Cully-Foley is an intriguing domestic match for the Irish fans.
A deal was agreed according to Taylor but Foley’s team has apparently pulled out over the weight. Cully agreed to 137 pounds whilst Foley’s team wanted 138 pounds for their catchweight bout. Taylor believes that if Foley wants to still fight on a historic card, the bout can still happen.
Gary Cully’s fight is the final main card fight to be added with the other four matchups already set. WBA Super Welterweight champion Terri Harper squaring off against former undisputed champion Cecilia Breakhus, Dennis Hogan and JJ Metcalf meeting for Hogan’s IBO 154-pound strap and a dream world title shot for Ellie Scotney against IBF Super Bantamweight champion, Australia’s Cherneka Johnson.
