UFC 294: Paulo Costa Out, Usman Vs. Chimaev Official
UFC 294 has had a whirlwind last 24 hours. First, the original main event of Islam Makhachev vs. Charles Oliveira was canceled due to Charles receiving a bad cut above his eye in training. Then, Alexander Volkanovski stepped in on short notice. Now, the originally planned co-main event of Paulo Costa vs. Khamzat Chimaev has been cancelled due to Paulo Costa having a staph infection. Now, a replacement has been named.
Kamaru Usman Set for UFC 294
Paulo Costa revealed earlier this week that he had to undergo surgery for staph infection in his elbow three weeks ago. On social media, he was positive that he would still make the fight. Then, Costa took to his social pages today to claim that the UFC medical team is not clearing him for the fight due to the infection, and he was pulled. Shortly after, rumors started to swirl after UFC Hall Of Famer Daniel Cormier posted a video saying that if what he heard is true, the replacement for Costa is massive. Now, UFC has officially confirmed a replacement and Cormier was right, it’s massive!
Kamaru Usman has stepped in on 10 days notice to fight Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294 on Saturday, October 21st in Abu Dhabi. These two have been going back and forth for a while now, with arguments of who’s the better wrestler and the fans really wanted to find out. But, the fight was never able to materialize. That was until now. Sadly, it comes at the cost of Costa having to pull out, but the card has gotten arguably bigger.
Two pull-outs in the main event and co-main event have somehow made the UFC 294 card more intriguing than before. It’s official. Kamaru Usman is back!
